the Mahindra building in Worli, near Doordarshan

ooOOOoo

I've been merrily hop-skip-jumping my way though your journal (as my trail of comments will prove) and as I went scrolling down a page of posts tagged "design" (for reasons I will explain later), this one made my tummy flip. Try it: go to the top of this entry and then scroll down using the arrow key. The way the grid of that structure, which already looks like its designer had astigmatism (like me!), jumps with the scrolling is hypnotic.

The way the Mahindra

The way the Mahindra building whirls by as the bus rounds the corner is quite nice. It's not on a main road so most people have probably never seen it, but it's a fairly strange building for Bombay (though it wouldn't have been in the 70s).

viva los 70s

Being born when I was means that I have spent a lot of energy automatically hating everything from the 70s, but the more I pause and look at things again, now (even old family photos), the more I think the world was on to a lot of great ideas. Yes, this retrospect is largely fueled by 70s masala, but so what! My love of architecture began in university and I only focused on oooooold things, but when I actually open my eyes and look at some of the 70s buildings, they tend not to disappoint. I may not _like_ them, but they're interesting, which is what I ask of my built environment when I'm just thinking from an onlooker perspective.
