dracunerd vs wolfthing

Posted in

Not based on any topic. Just a product of free-drawing (though I must admit that at the stick figure stage it was a warm-up for a Kong Vs Gojira sketch that might have ended up under Kaiju Monster Apocalypse -- I still want to do that one).

I used the fat brush pen for most of it because I have little experience with that. It's quite hard to control on this paper, but the style works for something rough like this. Smaller details like much of the textural linework on dracunerd were done with the small brush pen, and it adds a a nice lino/woodcut look to it, I think.

And yes, the flower was added in as an afterthought after all the inking was done.

This reminds me a lot of the old E.C. style comics. You should throw in a title overhead. Check out these old assorted comic covers. The art style on these books was often really superb too, similarly inky and very dark.

Wow, you've been keeping busy in your blog! Thank you for the Happy Birthday mail that, uh, I accidentally managed to delete before reading it.

Spyder: Thanks for the link. Yeah, now that you mentione it, the ink style on Dracunerd especially seems to fit (I rushed through inking wolfthing). When I eventually color this one I'll do a whole EC style cover.

Maija: Don't worry, the Happy Birthday mail mostly consisted of me wishing you a Happy Birthday and asking how the new job and city are. Answers on a blog post please.

On a side note, don't you wish you got blog 'postcard' you could just plug with a note and post up? It could have funny pictures like "Depressed! Again!" and "More Useless Links!"
