Glad to hear that civilization is still alive and well somewhere. As you can see I finally cracked and started making comics (and already my minions and I are plotting to take over the world, like, next week!).

Mac-hole vs the New Hotness

If you think the Mac-hole is bad, you should try Windows Vista! Seriously, it's got the obtuse non-geek 'usability friendly' approach of a Mac but with Windows 'DOES NOT COMPUTE' mentality.

It shuts downs and spins up my CD drive every ten seconds. If earlier Windows just wouldn't respond to any program behaving strangely, now if anything hangs for a microsecond or so it eagerly asks me if I want to close it (when usually waiting a few seconds will fix it)... and then when I try to shut the program down Windows itself stops responding and I have to pop the battery in order to reset the thing. It asks me if I 'really want to do this' for every. single. thing.

I don't know how to get it to do... argh... ANYTHING!

Rant over. I'm moving to Linux.

Oh, and I din't have to scan much. These were just two pages in a notebook. I just cut up the panels later for easier viewing. I should put up the rough ones later.

I must scan things! I MUST SCAN THINGS! I tried scanning things the other night, had them all ready to show off and then the Mac-hole crashed and lost all the files I had scanned before saving them.

Oh! ... and did NASA actually land on the Moon, and what did pirates have to do with it? (Arm-strong sounds like a very pirate name to me) Were Girl Pirates involved? Did they wear bikini-strap space suits?? So many mysteries that might never be solved!

And Candice, I'm touched. I would go shopping with you too, as long as Pirate Boots are on the shopping list. You know my number.

Good things usually come from comment threads on Dan's blog. Usually these discussions include Elephant Porn and other high arts, but in a recent open thread the basic script of this came up as a comment (or three) by me. Almost instantly I thought it would make a good comic, and decided to attempt it the minute Spyder pointed out that today (the 19th) would be International Talk Like a Pirate Day. How could I resist?

Truth be told, this was actually going to be my rough sketch for the comic, and was done in my little notebook. I had intended to do it on a bigger sheet of paper, but by the time 4am rolled around I abandoned that idea. It was coloured, as usual, in the GIMP.

MY backside is aching from sitting in this chair all day wrestling with the graphics tablet, and I'm sure that over the next few days several aches and pains will show up, but all of those have been nullified in advance by the huge grin on my face. I hope you enjoy reading this comic as much as I did making it; it's probably the first finished one I've done since, well, 1993, I think (it was called Super Monkey, of course).

Far too long to have stayed away from a medium I love so much. It won't be another 14 year wait for the next one.
